Salsa Dancing

Posted in Salsa Dancing at 1:07 am by mknight1130

Every Tuesday evening my husband and I take salsa dancing lessons with Angelko, an instructor at Dance Mode. Not only is salsa dancing a fun activity, but it improves my coordination. I also practice connecting with other people, enhancing my empathy skills.

On the weekends, my husband and I go for a night of salsa dancing. I like checking salsa in Salsa in Portland, Oregon! http://www.salsapower.com/cities/us/portland.htm for the best places to dance and also to get the pulse on upcoming events. From this site, I learned about Mambo Lounge, which is one of our favorite haunts.

This has lead my curiosity about the history of salsa dancing. I found, the CHICO’s Salsa Virtual Tour Index http://www.si.umich.edu/CHICO/salsa/texts/index.html . I recommend this site because it is associated with the School of Information at the University of Michigan, a premiere player in organizing digital information. Also, the introduction is easy to read. Links lead to a chronology, a description of various styles and instruments, and the cultural influences of salsa. This is a site that will intrigue your interest.

In the meantime I will pull out my dancing shoes and get ready for our upcoming lesson.
